Education

Most experience in Special Education, working with children with specific limitations in academics and behavior. Completed B.A. in Broad field Social Studies at Beloit College in 1975. Teaching requirements completed at the same time at Beloit. Master's Degree at Northeast Missouri State Univ. (now called Truman State Univ.) in 1989. Received Master's in Education with certification as Secondary Principal or Type 75 Certificate. 25 years of teaching experience, primarily in Special Education.

Experience

I started tutoring when I was in high school in Math. As a student in college, I also tutored other students in various subjects. In twenty-five years of educational experience, I was primarily involved with special needs students, who required innovative techniques to succeed. While most of my students were below grade level, I also worked with "gifted" children who presented a unique set of circumstances and instructional techniques. After retiring from full-time teaching, I worked at Huntington Learning Program in Elmhurst. I currently work as a professional artist in Chicago and Charleston, South Carolina. I am also a member of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology and have worked at the Field Museum of Natural History and the University of Chicago as a preparator for fossils from the field.

Hobbies

I have practical experience in many areas of teaching. I was awarded the Teacher of the Year award in 1997 for my work in Lake County, Illinois with special needs children. Special Education includes students with learning disabilities, social/emotional problems, behavioral problems as well as "gifted" children. I taught bright children in the Worlds of Wisdom program in Chess and Dinosaurs. I have taught at every level from Kindergarten to College as well as lecturing on behavioral management programs and techniques at national symposiums and conferences. I am proud to be a father and grandfather.
